About Us

The City and District of St Albans Tour Guides was founded in 1964, as an independent association. Our guides are qualified to either Blue Badge or Green Badge level within the Institute of Tourist Guiding, and all have a comprehensive knowledge of local history and guiding techniques. St Albans City Guides are all volunteers, who have an enthusiasm and commitment to promoting the city of St Albans to local residents and visitors alike.

Walks take place on most weekends throughout the year, and members of the public are welcome to meet the guide at the starting point and pay on the day. We offer a wide variety of themed walks within our programme, reflecting the rich and diverse history of St Albans

In addition to our public walks, we also cater for pre-booked private groups. Groups we have entertained include local schoolchildren, overseas academics, pensioner coach trips, historical groups, staff outings, and many more besides. In partnership with the Abbey Guides, we now offer a combined City and Abbey tour, which takes in both the magnificent Cathedral and the City surrounding it.

If your group want to know more about St Albans, but are worried it might be pouring down with rain, why not stay inside and book one of our talks. Go to our Talks section, and see our range of interesting talks on various aspects of St Albans .
